Graduation

Graduation is right around the corner. Are you ready?

Most high school seniors graduate around the end of May. This is both a happy time and a sad time. You will be moving onto bigger and better things, yet at the same time you will be ending one chapter of your life’s book. For some seniors, it is awesome to get out of high school and others just don’t want to leave. To understand why graduation is a life achievement, one must take into account all the aspects of it.

The first thing that the seniors do coming close to their graduation date is to set goals for their lives. Almost every senior has a goal to attend a college, technical school, some other further educational experience, or they go straight into the workforce. Whatever it may be, they have goals for their lives, which are short-term and long-term. Most of us are looking for a successful life. Winston Churchill once said, “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” He summed it up pretty well, meaning that life has many failures but from those you should learn and not make them again. To learn from these failures will only make you a more successful person in life. Remember, as Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in this world.” We are the next generation and we can shape the world as we want it.

This is only the beginning though. You see, we still have a long road in front of us. Graduation is referred to as a commencement ceremony for the reason that it isn’t the end but yet the very beginning of our lives. After this day, we leave what we used to be and enter what we will be for the rest of our lives no matter what path we take. The best advice to be given about our individual destinies is, “Do not follow the path in front of us yet make a new one unique to yourself.” Make everything that will transpire to your own liking and just be you!

Winston Churchill once gave a speech after World War II, "Never give in, never give in, never, never, never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy. Those who achieve in life are those who don't stop trying. Giving in to discouragement is the downfall of so many.” What we can take from this quote is to never waver and always pursue your own destiny wherever it may lead.

Finally, seniors should be free in the respect of their own choices. To create memories of their own and to inspire those who look up to them. Pursue a life of their own and find success in any situation they come across. To live well and full lives as well respected American citizens. It is now your life, what will you choose to do with it?
